| Vermilion Fire Department Vermilion
Fire Department proudly protects 12,000 people living in an area of 800
square miles. We protect a combination of town residential, commercial,
industrial and rural area. Our department is a public department whose
members are on a volunteer status. About 80% of the firefighters have been
trained to the NFPA 1001 Fire Fighter
Professional Qualification. The other 20% are newer
volunteers and currently in training. This involves 12 weeks of training
on their own time on evenings and weekends. We are rolling within
three minutes of being paged. With the new truck we can be
wearing the air pacs within a block.
We are a very active volunteer dept. of 25 members. We serve the town of
Vermilion as well as the County of Vermilion River, a total population of
4500 in town and 7500 in county. We provide fire fighting, vehicle rescue,
hazardous materials and search and rescue. Being located on the Yellowhead
Highway keeps us busy with vehicle extrication. We are very involved in
community fundraisers and local events. We participate in the Firefit
Combat Challenge competition.
