Vermilion & District Fish & Game Association
Sportsmen in the Vermilion area have been lacking a safe
approved location in which to practice archery and use their firearms.
Concerned members of the community took it upon themselves to establish a
gun range within close proximity of the town of Vermilion and organized
within the provincial umbrella of the Alberta Fish and Game Association. By
the end of 2003 137 members have joined the club which is open to any member
of the community and family memberships are encouraged. It is anticipated
that once the shooting range is fully operational over 150 members will
regularly use the facilities.
The club, which is on land donated by a local land owner and club member is
located in a valley 10 kilometers south of Vermilion. Construction on the
range started in the summer of 2002 and construction activities continue to
this day. Shooting lanes have been established and backstops constructed at
the 25, 50, 100 and 200 yard ranges. The range was signed along the
perimeter and all of the safety materials required have been obtained. The
completed gun club is envisioned to contain a rifle range consisting of
backstops at 25, 50, 75, 100, 150, 200 and 250 yards with a shooting
platform enclosed on the top and sides. A pistol range will be located
beside and is part of the 25 yard range while the archery range will be
located behind the shooting area. Facilities will include a gravel parking
lot, storage shed for equipment, outhouse with holding tank and a heated and
insulated club house.
The club was officially approved as a rifle and pistol
range early in 2003. It has been approved for all firearms up to but
excluding 50 caliber.
It is the intention of the Vermilion and District Fish and Game Association
to make the range and club house facilities available to the community for
organized events, firearms qualification and activities. Included are
organizations such as the RCMP, Alberta Fish and Wildlife Division, Lakeland
College and firearms safety instructors.
The gun range is located 10 km (6 miles) south of
Vermilion on Range Road 493. Travel directly south of town from the UGG
corner to Grizzly Bear Coulee. The range is located on the north side of the
coulee to the east of the road. Click here to
