Noctilucent Clouds Despite appearances these are taken well
after sunset. They are only visible when the sun is past the horizon
far enough to illuminate these clouds which are 40-50 miles high and
nothing else in the sky. Scientists don't yet fully understand the
nature of these clouds as they are understandably very difficult to
analyze. You can't send a plane that high.
