County of Vermilion River - McNabb Wildlife Sanctuary

This is a very nice drive through the rolling hills and coulees southeast of Vermilion.  Depending on your route either four miles of paved roads and eleven of gravel roads or seven miles of paved and eight miles of gravel roads

Directions
- Seven miles south on Hwy 41.  About a mile south of the largish valley is the sign for Thorncliffe Road where you go east two miles to the dead end. After a mile south you will have to follow the curve to then proceed five miles east.   Be careful of the faded stop sign at Twp Road 492 two miles after the curve.
- Or four miles west of Hwy 41 on the Yellowhead Hwy to Range Road 62. Then south eight and a half miles to Twp Road 492.  East three miles.

Colin McNabb initially gave the western quarter to the province.  However he was quite disappointed with the lack of attention the province was giving to his donation.  He then gave the home quarter to the county.

At one time Colin stated he was feeding three hundred deer.

Downtown stop lights mean the stop lights at 50th St and 50th Ave in the centre of down town.
Four way stop signs are at the entrance to down town and east of the northern stop lights.
Southern stop lights are on hwy 41 south of the railway underpass.  Here you can go west to Lakeland College, Ag Society grounds and Fire Etc to the west and east to the industrial area.
Northern stop lights are on hwy 41 north of the railway underpass. You can head west to the hospital, provincial park, seniors centre and cultural centre.  To the east are the RCMP, downtown and Lakeland Mall
Lakeland Mall (4420 Railway Avenue) is at the east end of Railway Ave.  From the southern stop lights head east a mile to the railroad crossing past the seed cleaning plant with the orange top and north across the railroad tracks.  From the four way stop signs or downtown stop lights go north two short blocks and east a mile until near the end.
